Transformers do always consume a certain amount of electricity. This is mainly due to the fact that transformers have two main types of losses during operation: copper losses and iron losses.
First of all, copper loss is due to the fact that the coil of the transformer has a resistance and generates heat when it is energized, and this part of the loss is the copper loss. The size of the copper loss depends mainly on the size of the current and the resistance of the coil.
Secondly, the iron loss is due to the transformer core when energized to produce eddy current, so that the iron core to produce heat, this part of the loss is iron loss. However, these losses can be minimized as much as possible and the efficiency of the transformer can be improved through reasonable design and process. For example, optimizing the structure and material of the coil and reducing the resistance value can reduce the copper loss; choosing appropriate core material and structure can reduce the iron loss. In addition, the use of advanced insulation technology and magnetic circuit design can also reduce electromagnetic leakage and magnetic loss.
In conclusion, transformers do consume a certain amount of power in the working process, but through reasonable design and process, these losses can be minimized as much as possible to improve the efficiency of the transformer.
