Power transformer is a kind of static electrical equipment, mainly used to convert a certain value of AC voltage (current) into the same frequency of another or several different values of voltage (current). It is mainly composed of iron core, winding, oil tank and accessories. Iron core is the magnetic circuit part of the transformer, in order to improve the magnetic circuit permeability and reduce eddy current and hysteresis loss, the core is usually coated with insulating paint silicon steel sheet staggered stacked. The winding is the circuit part of the transformer, which realizes the conversion of voltage and current through the principle of electromagnetic induction.

The operating principle of power transformers is based on electromagnetic induction. When the primary coil is connected to an AC power source, an alternating magnetic flux is generated in the iron core, and this alternating flux induces an AC electromotive force in the secondary coil, which results in the conversion of voltage. This conversion occurs not only numerically but also involves the form of voltage and current.

Power transformers are used in a wide range of applications in several areas, including the beginning and end points of transmission lines, distribution transformer sites, industrial areas, agricultural uses, buildings and homes, urban infrastructure, and power load management systems. The primary role of power transformers in these settings is to meet the voltage and current requirements of different equipment and systems while reducing voltage and power losses during transmission.

Various factors such as rated capacity, rated voltage, rated current and rated frequency need to be considered in the design and manufacture of power transformers to ensure their safe, reliable and efficient operation. Among them, rated capacity is the main parameter that characterizes the size of the transmitted electrical energy, usually expressed in kVA or MVA. Rated voltage and rated current refers to the rated capacity and rated voltage conditions, the transformer is allowed to pass the voltage and current value for a long time. The rated frequency refers to the frequency of industrial electricity, China's regulations for 50Hz.

Overall, power transformer is a key electrical equipment, it plays a vital role in the power system, can effectively convert the voltage and current, to meet the needs of a variety of equipment and systems, and at the same time to improve the transmission efficiency and use of electric energy.
