Connection of the distribution transformer
Distribution transformers are usually connected in star (Y) or delta (Δ) connection.
Here is a brief introduction to star and delta connections:
Star (Y) connection:
Generally speaking, star connection is used on the primary side (high voltage side).
This connection provides a neutral point and allows the connection of a neutral line. This is the main difference from the delta connection.
It helps to reduce phase voltage and manage unbalanced loads.
Delta (Δ) connection:
The corresponding delta connection is mostly used on the secondary side (low voltage side).
This connection supports higher load currents and provides better voltage regulation.
It can handle unbalanced loads more effectively and does not require a neutral line.
Wiring group representation:
For example, Yy0, Δy1, Yd11, etc. represent the connection method and phase angle of the high-voltage side and low-voltage side of the transformer.
The first letter represents the connection method of the high-voltage side (Y or Δ).
The second letter represents the connection method of the low-voltage side (Y or Δ).
The following number represents the displacement of the phase angle. (0: represents displacement, 1: represents phase displacement of 30°)
The choice of these two connection methods depends on the specific application of the power equipment, voltage level and load characteristics. Yawei Transformer will provide you with professional technical advisory services.
