To test whether the power supply and output transformer of a tube amplifier are working properly, you can follow the steps below:
**I. Power supply section test**.
1. **Exterior Inspection**: First, check the power transformer for any visible signs of damage or scorching. Confirm that all connectors, wires and insulation are intact.
2. **VOLTAGE TEST**: Using a multimeter and with the power turned on, test the individual voltage values output from the power transformer for compliance. Generally, tube amplifiers use several different voltages, such as 6.3V, 12V, 25V, etc. You need to make sure that all the voltages are within the normal range.
3. **SHORT CIRCUIT TEST**: Perform a short circuit test on all power supply pins in turn. If a short circuit is found, it may be an internal short circuit in the power transformer and needs to be replaced.
**Two, output transformer test**
1. **Impedance test**: Using an impedance meter or multimeter, test whether the primary and secondary impedances of the output transformer are within the specified range. Mismatch in impedance may result in sound distortion or power loss.
2. **Continuity Test**: Check for shorts or breaks between the pins of the transformer. If there is, the internal coil of the transformer may be damaged and need to be replaced.
3. **AUDIO SIGNAL TEST**: Under normal operation of the amplifier, by inputting an audio signal into the output transformer, then use an oscilloscope or audio analyzer to detect the signal at the output. If the signal passes through properly and there is no noticeable distortion, then the output transformer should be working properly.
