Test the power transformer using a multimeter as follows:
1. Insulation test: use the multimeter R × 10k stop, respectively, to measure the resistance between the core and the primary, the primary and each secondary, the core and each secondary, the secondary winding. Multimeter pointer should point to infinity position, if the pointer moves, indicating that the transformer insulation performance is poor.
2. coil on and off detection: the multimeter will be placed in the R × 1 block, test, if a winding resistance value for infinity, that there is a circuit-breaking failure of this winding.
3, identify the primary and secondary coil: power transformer primary and secondary pins are generally from both sides of the lead, the primary winding more marked with 220V, the secondary winding is marked out the rated voltage value, such as 15V, 24V, 35V, etc.. Identify according to these markings.
4. No-load current detection:
* Direct measurement method: all secondary windings will be open circuit, the multimeter is placed in the AC current block (500mA), strung into the primary winding. When the primary winding of the plug into the 220V AC mains, the multimeter is indicated by the no-load current value. This value should not be greater than 10% to 20% of the transformer full load current.
* Indirect measurement method: in the primary winding of the transformer in series with a 10/5W resistor, the secondary is still all no-load. Dial the multimeter to AC voltage block, through the measurement of voltage to indirectly calculate the no-load current.
Once the above steps have been completed, you should have fully tested the performance of the power transformer. Please note that it is important to follow safe operating procedures to avoid electric shock or other potential risks when performing any electrical tests.
